Radiation with Gamma rays has been reported to give rise to a large number of novel mutants in several ornamental species (Chrysanthemums, orchids, rose, pelargonium, canna, and carnations). The present study was carried out to utilize the mutagenic effect of gamma rays on Zinnia elegans to obtain dwarf varieties and flowers with novel architecture and colours.

Atom blasted

The belief that atomic radiation might create super plants now seems counterintuitive.  It is difficult to trace to a single source, but may have arisen through reports such as this one from 1947, in which plants grown in the “atom-blasted” soil at Nagasaki were recorded as being double in size, and reportedly the “crop yield today from land at blast center is twice that from normal soil.”

Todd’s Mitcham Peppermint (mentha x piperita ‘todd’s mitcham’)also commonly spelled Todd Mitchum Peppermint or called simply « black mitcham ». Disease resistant strain developed years ago by the A.M. Todd Peppermint Company for commercial peppermint field production. It contains a high essential oil content and is resistant to verticillium wilt. Excellent variety for tea and culinary use. Easy to grow perennial in zones 4-9 Live plant in 3 inch container. The « Todd’s Mitcham » cultivar of peppermint, which was produced from a breeding and test program at Brookhaven National Laboratory from the mid-1950s. Irradiation Cobalt 60.

Le fruit est similaire au Marsh ou Redblush sauf pour la chair rose foncée. C’est le pamplemousse pigmenté le plus foncé . Maturité de février à juin. Vigueur : moyenne. Nom latin « star ruby »
